On this week’s podcast:
We speak with Grace Resendez-McCaffery from Latino Media Gulf Coast, the publisher of La Costa Latina newspaper, who shared a sobering first-hand account of the atmosphere in Alabama since a federal judge upheld most of state's toughest-in-the-nation immigration law.
Resendez-McCaffery was in Alabama the day the law took affect and described the atmosphere as “a mixture of fear and uncertainty. There are still a lot of questions.”
We also learn from Resendez-McCaffery about the impact of the law on Hispanic families in the state.
“The overall feeling is a kind of sadness because you have lots of Hispanic families who just feel that it’s time to move,” Resendez-McCaffery said. ““It’s like breaking up a community, especially in the rural communities.“
